Batteries Gives Life To Gadgets-Invention, Uses, Future
Today, Batteries and cells are important parts of our life. We have a wide range of gadgets and devices that use the battery to expose its functioning. An Italian scientist named Alessandra Volta invented the battery in 1800. He got the idea of making a battery from an Italian doctor named Lingi Galvanic who invented the electric current in 1780. He realized that he could produce an electric current flow by placing panels of different metals in contact with the salt solution and other substances. He conducted a number of experiments with different metals and solutions to find out which substance gave the maximum flow of current. After many experiments, he took a pile of silver and zinc discs with layers of cardboard soaked with salty water between them to make the battery.
Batteries are the source of direct current and have become an essential source of portable power in our society. Redox reactions keep the batteries in our cell phones and laptops functioning. Batteries provide electric power for starting engines in automobiles, for running systems on space vehicles and for devices i.e; toys, portable radios, heart pacers, flashlights, electronic calculators, TVs, Tape recorders etc.
There are batteries that can be recharged and can’t be recharged. Rechargeable batteries are the primary cells mostly used in Laptops, mobile phones, Emergency lights etc, and non-rechargeable batteries are the secondary and storage cells that are mostly used in wristwatches, toys, remotes, torches etc.
Our daily smart wearables and gadgets are becoming advanced day by day. But the batteries are still limiting their power. Smartphones have normally a battery life of for a day or two. But Different universities are now getting involved in the advancement of the technology, even battery. It may take some time but it’ll possible to have a battery life of smartphones and other wearables for a week or more with only 30 seconds of charging.
The vision of future batteries technology is very surprising that it may shake up the people. Batteries may have a built-in fire extinguisher. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 battery is a primary example of exploding of lithium-ion batteries. So it has given the idea of explosion free battery, that is safe from explosion.
